WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Evangel Softball team opened the NAIA National Championship Opening Rounds on Monday (May 11) afternoon, taking on the Faulkner Eagles, searching to break a two game first round losing streak after falling in their opening contest in Texas and Georgia.
Evangel's offense was unable to generate any runs in Monday's loss, as the Valor fell to the Eagles, 5-0, moving to elimination games the rest of the way.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Neither team was able to score in the first two innings of play, but the Eagles plated their first run in the top of the third to lead, 1-0.

Faulkner took advantage of Evangel errors and were able to work a couple of base hits in the top of the fifth, extending their lead to 5-0.

The Valor were able to put a runner on in all of the last three innings, but could not plate a run, falling 5-0 in their first matchup of the tournament.
UP NEXT
Evangel Softball takes on #4 Dillard tomorrow (May 12) afternoon at 1:00 p.m., needing a win to stay alive in the national tournament. Should Evangel win, the Valor will take on the loser of #1 Southeastern and #3 Faulkner in an elimination matchup immediately following their matchup with Dillard.
