SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After a tough series on the road against the Park Pirates, Valor Baseball returned home to take on the nationally ranked Central Methodist Eagles.
A complete game gem from Austin Dill in game one set the Valor up for a victory over the 21st ranked Eagles squad, 2-1, but a tough outing in game two against the Eagles resulted in a 11-6 loss as the Valor were able to split with CMU.
HIGHLIGHTS

Dill broke the Evangel record for strikeouts in a single season in the win, currently sitting at 92 this year.

Matthew Olson was clutch in game one, finishing with both RBIs with a double and sacrifice fly.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one. Brooks Espy singled through the right side and ultimately scored on a Olson double to left field.

Central Methodist evened the score in the fifth inning, scoring their first run.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jeremy Vickers singled to third base to open the inning. Nathan Lamb was hit by a pitch and a Bro. Espy walk loaded the base for Evangel. An Olson sacrifice fly scored Vickers, putting Evangel ahead, 2-1.

Dill forced three outs in the top of the seventh to solidify the game one victory, 2-1.

Central Methodist scored two runs to open the second game, taking an early lead on the Valor, 2-0.

The Valor quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, plating four runs to take a 4-2 lead. Brennan Espy singled up the middle followed by a Athanie Leeviraphan bunt single. Carson Sturdefant grounded out, scoring Bre. Espy. Levi Loughridge was hit by a pitch and followed up by a Vickers single to right field, scoring Leeviraphan. A wild pitch scored Sammy Ritter who was courtesy running for Loughridge and a Eli Cook sacrifice fly scored Vickers to end the scoring for EU in the first inning.

CMU responded by scoring nine runs over the following six innings and holding the Valor scoreless until the bottom of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Nathan Weatherly was hit by a pitch and Riley Mitchell ran for him. Leeviraphan walked and both runners advanced a base on a CMU balk. Sturdefant used a long at bat and pushed a single through the left side, scoring Mitchell. Loughridge followed Sturdefant up with a sacrifice fly, scoring Leeviraphan and making it a 11-6 game.

The Valor were unable to generate any additional runs with two outs in the final inning, falling 11-6 to CMU.
