ATCHISON, Kan. – Valor Baseball continued their conference schedule on Saturday, opening a four game series with the Benedictine Ravens in Atchison.
The Valor were able to use nine extra base hits in game one to pull out an extra inning battle, 9-7, but fell in game two after allowing a five run sixth inning, 5-3.
HIGHLIGHTS

Carson Sturdefant continued his hot streak from the plate on Saturday, going 5-7 with three runs, three doubles, two singles, two RBIs, and two walks.

Isaac Daley and Austin Dill both had solid starting appearances on the mound, but both getting no decisions, as the duo struck out 11 batters apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Brennan Espy doubled in the top of the first and advanced to third on a Athanie Leeviraphan single. Espy scored soon after on a Levi Loughridge sacrifice fly, giving the Valor an early 1-0 lead.

Benedictine scored three runs in the bottom of the first on several Valor miscues, taking a 3-1 lead.

Sturdefant walked to open the top of the third inning and came around to score on a Loughridge single and Brooks Espy base hit, making it 3-2, in favor of the Ravens.

The Valor retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Sturdefant kicked the scoring off with a double, followed by a Loughridge double to score Carson. Nathan Weatherly followed Loughridge's at bat with a double of his own, to give EU a 4-3 lead.

Evangel continued to find their bulk of offense from Sturdefant and Loughridge in the top of the seventh. Sturdefant hit another double and Loughridge smoked a ball over the fence to give Evangel a 6-3 lead. A Bro. Espy double was followed by a Matthew Olson double, putting EU ahead 7-3, heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Benedictine used a three run home run and solo home run to even the game up and force extra innings.

Evangel was unable to score in the eighth inning, but scored two runs in the top of the ninth. Eli Cook was hit by a pitch, followed by a Rodell Andrews III and Bre. Espy single, to load the bases. Leeviraphan hit a single to score Cook and Andrews III, putting the Valor ahead of Benedictine, 9-7. Loughridge finished off his relief effort by forcing a flyout and striking out a pair to win the game.

Olson got on base via an error and Leeviraphan singled. A Sturdefant single scored Olson, putting the Valor ahead, 1-0, in game two.

The Valor took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Bre. Espy singled and a Benedictine error put Leeviraphan on base. Loughridge's single scored Espy and a Sturdefant single scored Leeviraphan.

A triple and home run in the bottom of the sixth scored five Benedictine runs, putting the Ravens ahead, 5-3.

The Valor grounded out twice and lined out to end the game in the seventh, falling 5-3.
