PERU, Neb. – Valor Softball hit the road on Friday after two weeks off from play, looking to open the conference schedule on a high note, facing off with the Peru State Bobcats.
Evangel dominated through both games, scoring 10 runs in both wins, 10-0 and 10-2, on Friday, opening their conference season at 2-0 and moving to 15-7 overall.
HIGHLIGHTS

Ashland Diggs moved to 3-0 on the season, while Samantha Romano earned her fifth win of the year (5-5).

Ali Raley went 5-5 from the plate throughout both games, finishing with two home runs, three singles, two walks, three runs, and eight RBIs.

Kenna Mayfield had a great game at the plate, finishing 5-7 with three doubles, two singles, a walk, a run, and four RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel opened game one on Friday with an Ali Raley home run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Valor scored an additional three runs, taking a 4-0 lead. Naomi Perkins was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a Peru State passed ball. Perkins advanced to third on a groundout, scoring on a Megan Stone bunt single. Stone then scored on Raley's second home run of the afternoon.

Brooke Arnold doubled to open the top of the fifth inning and a Stone hit by pitch and Raley walk loaded the bases for Evangel. A Kenna Mayfield double scored Stone and Keeley Aaron, who was running for Raley, putting EU ahead, 6-0.

Stone singled in the top of the sixth to score Perkins, who had gotten on base via passed ball on a strikeout, giving EU a 7-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Raley singled and Mariah Hanner walked to open the inning. A Mayfield double and Josie Allcock-Sperry sacrifice fly scored both runners. A Cayleigh Berry sacrifice fly scored Mayfield, solidifying the Valor 10-0 victory in game one.

An Arnold walk was followed by a stolen base and a Stone single, moving Arnold to third. Raley singled to score both Arnold and Stone. An Allcock-Sperry walk was followed by a Kya Schmidt single to score both Raley and Sperry, giving EU a 4-0 lead in just the first inning.

Stone doubled and advanced to third on the throw, scoring on the next at bat when Raley hit a sacrifice fly to put Evangel ahead, 5-0.

Perkins hit a single and stole second base, ultimately scoring on a Arnold single in the top of the third inning. Stone walked and stole second, putting both runners in scoring position for Raley. Ali continued her strong afternoon from the plate, scoring both on a single to left field and giving the Valor a 8-0 lead.

Peru State scored their first two runs in the bottom of the third, but Evangel matched their two runs in the top of the fifth, leading to the run rule. Hanner and Mayfield singled to score both Evangel runs, giving EU a 10-2 victory.

The Valor will travel to Lamoni, Iowa, tomorrow (Mar. 25) for a doubleheader with the Graceland Yellowjackets.
