LAMONI, Iowa – Graceland built a three-goal lead, then withstood a late Evangel comeback bid to secure a 3-2 victory in the two clubs' Heart of America Athletic Conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Rasmussen Soccer Complex.
Trailing 3-0, Evangel nearly came all the way back behind the first career goals of Addyson Hicks and Maddie Wanner. But GU goal keeper Jordin Holmquist-Wilder turned away a Grace Wright shot with just over two minutes left for her sixth save to help preserve the one-goal advantage
"While disappointed in the match result, I am proud that we battled until the final seconds and nearly got the game leveled," Evangel head coach Bruce Deaton stated. "That fight will go a long way toward solidifying this team. We keep building and growing and are better from this match."
