PERU, Neb. – The Evangel softball team rode a career afternoon from Josie Allcock to a Heart Conference doubleheader sweep of Peru State Friday afternoon at Centennial Complex Field.
Evangel extended its conference win streak to five-straight games thanks in large part to Allcock, who drove in 10 runs to help power EU's offense.
Game 1 – Evangel 8, Peru State 4
Allcock set the tone for the afternoon with her two-run, first-inning home run, before driving in two more runs with a third-inning single to help stake EU to an early 6-2 lead. She finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBIs, adding an RBI single in the sixth to extend the EU advantage to six runs.
Marissa Lokey drove in a run as part of EU's four-run third, while Megan Stone scored three runs and went 2-for-3 and Kristyn Stocks finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
Bridget Rippe (8-5) earned the victory with 6.0 solid innings, scattering four runs on eight hits while striking out four hitters.
Game 2 – Evangel 11, Peru State (5 inn.)
Allcock turned in a repeat performance in the nightcap, driving in five more runs to help spur the run-rule victory. She plated three runs with her first-inning base hit, then brought in two more as part of EU's seven-run outburst in the fourth.
EU overcame a 3-0 deficit to notch the sweep, as Peru scored all three of its runs in the home half of the first to claim the early advantage. Alaina Lacy accounted for two runs with her base hit to center, and Karli Kohout drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in the third tally.
Evangel responded immediately in the top of the second, as Allcock cleared the bags with her single to left after an error, a walk and a hit batsman loaded the bases. Lokey, who finished 2-for-3, put EU on top to stay with her run-scoring double to right to cap the rally.
Allcock and EU eliminated any doubts about the outcome with their seven-run fourth inning, once again taking advantage of a defensive miscue. After a walk and another hit batsman started the inning, Allcock reached on a mishandled ground ball, bringing in Annslee Leeviraphan and Stone for a 6-3 EU lead.
Next, a Lokey single and an Ali Raley double produced another run, before Stocks squeezed home a run from third and Abigail Posten added an RBI single. EU tacked on two more runs on another error and a Stone double to left to extend its lead to eight runs.
Abby Jo Emmitt (8-3) earned the victory for Evangel after tossing 3.0 strong innings, over which she allowed three runs on six hits. Micaiah Cordell finished off the victory with 2.0 innings of one-hit, shutout relief.
