Home Runs Not Enough As Evangel Softball Falls At Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Evangel softball team came up short Friday falling 6-3 in game one and 8-4 in game two at Grand View in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

Game 1

The Crusaders fell behind early in game one as Grand View scored two runs in the first and two more in the third inning to lead 4-0. 

Evangel got on the board in the fourth inning when Broke Perry led off with a single to left and stole second. Perry would score two batters later when Kami Holt belted an RBI single to center, but the rally would stop on a strikeout with the bases loaded.

The Crusaders would score two more in the sixth but it would come after Grand View added two more in the fifth.

Perry and Holt were joined by Allison Davis with two hits each as Evangel out-hit Grand View 10-6. However, the Crusaders left eight on base while the Vikings left just three.

Bridget Rippe went 4.1 before Abby Emmitt pitched the final 1.2 innings.

Game 2

The second game saw Grand View again take an early lead with a run in the first and second innings before a four-run third. 

A Hailey Lange solo home run to lead off the fourth got the Crusaders on the board, but the Vikings would get the run back on a hit and two Evangel errors in the bottom of the inning. 

The Crusaders would again chip into the lead in the sixth with a pair of runs that started with a double from Lange to lead off the inning. Grand View built an 8-3 lead with a home run of its own in the bottom of the inning as Josie Allcock belted a solo homer for Evangel in the seventh.

Lange finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored while Halbrook added a pair of hits and an RBI to pace the offense. 

Abby Emmitt threw two innings before Emma Hill pitched the final four innings. Both pitched tallied a combined four strikeouts after scattering five hits each.

Up Next

Evangel heads to Graceland on Saturday for a double-header with the Yellowjackets. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
