Baseball Falls in High Scoring Double-Header to College of the Ozarks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel baseball team dropped a non-conference double-header Tuesday to College of the Ozarks, 10-4 and 14-10, at Crusader Field.

Game One
Evangel jumped out to an early lead with a pair of triples in the first and second innings. The first coming from Dustin Hargus in the first as the second from Patrick Gaul. Gaul finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

College of the Ozarks took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when the Bobcats plated seven runs. The Bobcats scored all seven runs on seven hits and one Evangel error.

Dustin Eby tossed four solid innings scattering six hits and striking out two. The two runs allowed by Eby were unearned. Bryan Adames was charged with six runs in the fifth before Tanner McVey pitched the final 2.2 innings.

McVey also finished 2-for-3 at the plate for Evangel.

Game Two
After an early lead in the second game, College of the Ozarks scored in every inning but one to take the lead in the third inning. Evangel attempted a late rally in the final three innings but came up just short.

Dylan Bradshaw and Tanner McVey each hit home runs in the fifth and sixth innings to help pull Evangel within 13-9. Bradshaw finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored while McVey was 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a run scored.

Ryan Frye also added two hits and two RBIs for Evangel as both teams combined for 29 hits in the game.

Evangel used four pitchers in the game as Ben Loge picked up the loss after allowing seven runs through the first three innings. Tyler Collison tossed an inning while Austin Dill pitched 1.1 innings. Colin Irvine pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing only run.

Bryce Burtless earned the win for College of the Ozarks scattering 11 hits through 5.1 innings.

Up Next
Evangel opens conference action Friday with a double-header against Grand View. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
