SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel baseball team earned a series victory over Baker taking game one, 3-2 before falling in the finale by the same score, 3-2, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference double-header.

Evangel swept the first two games of the series Friday and took game one Saturday to claim the series. However, Baker rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh to steal the finale with a one-run victory.

In game one, Dustin Eby was solid again on the mound going the distance and allowing just two runs. Most importantly, the right-hander did not allow a walk and struck out eight Wildcats, while scattering eight hits to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Baker took the early lead in the top of the first inning before Evangel came back to tie the game in the bottom of the third. The Wildcats scratched a run across in the top of the fifth, but the Crusaders quickly regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning taking advantage of a Baker error.

Dustin Hargus continued to swing a hot bat going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Stevin Cisneros and Jordan Yates earned the only other hits for Evangel as Cisneros also drove in a run.

In game two, Evangel jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. The Crusaders out-hit Baker 11-8 but left eight men on base in the loss.

Ryan Frye finished 3-for-3 with one of the Evangel RBIs, while Hargus drove in the other Evangel run.

Taylor Wood was solid through the first six innings holding Baker scoreless and scattering seven hits. However, the Wildcats also took advantage of Evangel miscues in the top of the seventh with only one of the three runs charged to Wood.
