TEXARKANA, Texas – The bats for the Evangel baseball team fell cold Saturday as the Crusaders fell 1-0 to Texas A&M-Texarkana and dropped a 5-2 decision to Our Lady of the Lake in tournament action.

Evangel got a solid pitching performance from Derek Kennel who allowed just one hit through the first five innings. The junior struck out four and allowed just the one run in the bottom of the fifth inning that proved to be the deciding run.

Both teams tallied three hits each in the game and left five men on base, however, the Crusaders we unable to push a run across in the loss.

Game two saw another solid pitching performance from the Crusaders as Tanner McVey threw five innings and striking out three while walking none. A four-run first inning for Our Lady of the Lake gave the Saints an early lead as Evangel added two runs in the bottom of the third to pull within a run.

Jose Vargas was 1-for-3 with the lone RBI for Evangel as Blake McCarty and Dustin Hargus each scored a run.

UP NEXT

Evangel will open its home schedule Tuesday against Oklahoma City in a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
