Oskaloosa, Iowa – Evangel earned a road sweep Saturday at William Penn winning game one 6-0 and game two 5-1 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to stay in the three-way race for the Heart of America conference regular season title.
The Crusaders improved to 28-10 and 14-4 in the league. Grand View, Central Methodist and Evangel are all within a game of each other entering the final week of the regular season.
William Penn dropped to 19-30 and 6-14 in the conference.
Michaela Tolliver (12-6) got the win in game one firing a two-hit shutout. The junior from Lee's Summit had a no-hitter through four innings and the only two hits she allowed both came on singles in the fifth inning. Taylor Kister went 2 for 3 at the plate for Evangel and drove in two runs on a second inning single. Kiara Carrier went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.
Evangel picked up the sweep blowing open a 2-1 lead with three runs in the seventh inning. A wild pitch with the bases loaded scored one run, then Jill Bellieu drove in two runs with a single. Kyra Parker (14-4) got the win allowing only four hits and one unearned run. The Webb City native walked one and struck out six. Bellieu went 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBI's while Brittany Arnold also had a 3 for 4 day with a run scored and a double.
The shutout in game one and the unearned run William Penn scored in the second game extended Evangel's streak of not allowing an earned run in 29 innings. The run the Statesmen scored in the third inning of game two was the first run allowed by Evangel pitching in 24 innings.
Evangel returns home to play a non-conference doubleheader against Williams Baptist at 1 p.m. at the Evangel Softball Complex.
