Fayette, Mo. – Evangel scored just two runs in both games at Central Methodist on Saturday as they were swept in a doubleheader 3-2 and 6-2 in Fayette, Missouri.
In game one, Evangel tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth on Caleb Kaufman's RBI single. Central Methodist answered with two runs in the bottom of the same inning scoring on a single and a bases loaded hit batsman. Ryan Frye brought Evangel within a run of the lead with a hit in the top of the sixth, but the Crusaders fell short by a run. Eagles' starter Jalen Miller got the win going all seven innings allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.
The Crusaders were held to two runs on seven hits in the nine inning second game. Evangel had a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Blake McCarty's two-out single drove in two runs. Those would be the last runs of the day for Evangel as Central Methodist took the lead back with two runs on the bottom of the third and ended the game with six runs on 15 hits. Zach Elledge went 2 for 4 at the plate for Evangel with a run and a double. Central Methodist starter Tyler Hull got the win going 8 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 runs and 1 earned run with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.
Evangel dropped to 9-22 and 1-9 in the Heart of America conference. Central Methodist improved to 18-8 and 5-3 in the league.
The Crusaders are idle until they start a four game series on Friday, April 1 at Avila with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
