Point Lookout, Mo. – Evangel split a doubleheader with College of the Ozarks on Tuesday in Point Lookout, Missouri falling in game one 5-4 on a run in the bottom of the seventh and winning game two 13-8.
Evangel rallied from a 4-0 deficit after two innings in game one only to lose on a College of the Ozarks run in the bottom of the seventh. Evangel shortstop Jordan Kirkpatrick's single in the top of the seventh tied the game at 4-4 as he drove in Kyle Thurman. The Bobcats responded in the bottom half of the inning and won the game on Tad Mitchell's one-out, bases loaded single. Kirkpatrick went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's to lead the Evangel offense.
The Crusaders scored 13 runs in the first three innings on their way to a 13-8 win in game two. Evangel posted five runs in the second inning and six in the third. The Crusaders took advantage of five Bobcats errors in the game. OF Ryan Frye went 2 for 3 with a double and 4 RBI's for the Crusaders. Josh Lachnit got the win for Evangel in relief.
The split put Evangel at 2-6 for the season while College of the Ozarks went to 3-6.
The Crusaders play their home opener on Friday. Evangel will start a three game series against Nebraska Wesleyan on Friday at 1 p.m. The two teams then play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday at the Evangel Baseball Complex.
