Springfield, Mo. – Evangel split two games against Graceland Saturday at Crusader Field winning game one 9-0 and losing game two 7-6.
Justin Stockam fired a three-hit shutout in game one giving Evangel a 9-0 victory. The sophomore from Springfield-Kickapoo won his first game of the season in the conference and allowed just three singles. He walked two and struck out two in the win. Brandon Cobb went 3 for 4 at the plate for the Crusaders with two runs and the senior from Nixa hit his second home run of the season.
An Evangel rally fell short in the second game in a 7-6 loss to the Yellowjackets. The Crusaders scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull within a run of the lead and had the tying run in scoring position before Graceland closer Austin Allen got a ground ball to third base to end the game. Darin Francis went 3 for 4 for Evangel and had three RBI's with a double.
The games end the regular season for Evangel. They finish with a 17-28 overall record and a 9-17 mark in the Heart of America conference. Graceland ended 22-27 and 13-13 in the league.
Evangel needs Culver-Stockton to beat Central Methodist twice on Saturday in order for the Crusaders to make the HAAC tournament. The postseason starts Thursday, April 30 in Joplin.
