Baldwin City, Kan. – Evangel split a conference doubleheader at Baker Tuesday losing game one 8-2 but winning game two 7-3 in a game shortened to 8 innings by rain.
Baker jumped out to a 3-0 in the first inning taking advantage of an Evangel error and a passed ball. The Wildcats plated two more runs in the third to go ahead 5-0. The Crusaders posted just a single run in the fourth and one in the seventh. Darin Francis went 2 for 2 for Evangel with a double and a run batted in while Brandon Cobb with 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Evangel built a 4-0 lead in top of the fourth inning of game two and went on to the win after rain and hail ended play in the bottom of the eighth. Jordan Kirkpatrick went 2 for 4 and drove in two runs for Evangel while Caleb Kaufman also had two hits including a double and an RBI.
Evangel went to 11-15 and 3-5 in the Heart of America conference while Baker moved their record to 12-16 and 2-6.
The Crusaders play again Friday when they open a four-game series at Culver-Stockton with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
