SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Volleyball returned home on Wednesday (Sept. 23) night, hosting the Avila Eagles in a KCAC matchup, aiming to bounce back after falling on the road to OKWU. The Valor used a balanced effort on Wednesday to sweep the Eagles, earning their second conference win of the season.
Evangel and Avila opened set one by trading points, as the game sat tied at 10-10. A brief 3-0 run helped EU take a lead they did not relinquish in the set, although Avila would draw within two points late, after EU captured a 23-17 lead. Jessica Pritchett closed the set out with a kill, taking a 25-22 win in set one.
Tied at 13-13 in the second set, Brooke Daniels went on a serving tear, recording a pair of service aces, while taking advantage of four Avila attacking errors to give EU a 20-13 lead. The Eagles would again battle back to within two points of EU's lead, but a block from Cienna Turner and Abby Ferguson, as well as a kill from Simone Johnson closed the set, giving the Valor a 25-20 win in set two.
Evangel trailed early in set three, 7-1, but as has been the case this season, the Valor would generate a large 12-1 run, to take a 13-8 lead over Avila. Ashya Thompson helped lead the Valor in the run, while Charlotte Hawkins helped close the set. The big run early helped keep EU in front and Pritchett closed out the game with back-to-back service aces, taking a 25-17 win and sweep of the Eagles.
