LINDSBORG, Kan. – Evangel Volleyball hit the road for a KCAC matchup with the Bethany College Swedes, aiming to earn their fourth win in conference play. The Valor took control early on Saturday and never looked back, sweeping Bethany in straight sets to move to 4-1 in conference play.
Set one proved to be a game of runs, as both teams traded the lead on several occasions. Tied at 8-8, the Valor would use a 5-1 run to lead 13-9, but Bethany responded with a 6-2 run to tie the game at 15-15. Several attacking errors from the Swedes allowed EU to go on a set closing run, as Simone Johnson and Cienna Turner recorded late kills in Evangel's 25-20 win in set one.
Despite the fact that the Valor would never trail in the second set, Bethany would push Evangel late. After leading 22-18, with several kills in the set coming from Ashya Thompson and Charlotte Hawkins, Bethany went on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 22-22. Turner closed the set out with a pair of kills, while Brooke Daniels used a service ace in EU's 25-22 win in set two.
The Swedes led 10-9 in set three before a 7-0 Evangel run completely swung momentum in the favor of the Valor, as Jessica Pritchett added a pair of kills to push EU to a 16-10 lead. The Valor would block several Bethany attacks late, using defense to score offense, ultimately taking a 25-16 win in set three and sweep of the Swedes on Saturday.
