SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Volleyball hosted longtime rival, College of the Ozarks, on Tuesday (Oct. 13) night, aiming to take a win after defeating the Bobcats earlier in the season. On a night where head coach Mary Whitehead was honored for her 27 years of service to the University, the Valor would dominate, sweeping the Bobcats to earn their third straight win over their rival.
C of O would lead early on Tuesday, 5-4, before Evangel used a 4-0 run to take a 8-5 lead. Simone Johnson and Charlotte Hawkins would keep the Valor in the lead for the remainder of the set, using several kills to help quell Bobcat runs in the set, taking a 25-18 win in set one on a Hawkins kill.
Evangel dominated in set two, as the Valor offense was fully clicking. 10 Bobcat attacking errors were paired with 12 Evangel kills and just two errors, helping push EU to a 25-15 win as six different Evangel athletes recorded kills in the set.
The Bobcats and Valor battled in set three, as it appeared late that the Bobcats would take the set, leading 22-19. A block from Abby Ferguson and Simone Johnson, was followed by a C of O attacking error, then a block from Charlotte Hawkins, and yet another block from Johnson and Hawkins, giving EU a 24-22 lead. Cienna Turner closed the game out with a kill to give EU a 6-0 run and win, 25-22, over College of the Ozarks.
