STERLING, Kan. – Evangel Volleyball hit the road on Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon, taking on the Sterling College Warriors in Kansas. The Valor struggled late on the attack, swinging even in the third set and negative in the final set, falling 3-1 on Saturday.
Both teams played a highly contested first set, as the lead was traded on several different occasions. The Valor trailed late, 23-21, before using a 4-1 run with kills coming from Ashya Thompson, Abby Ferguson, and Charlotte Hawkins to lead 25-24. The Warriors closed the set out with a 3-0 run to take the win from EU, 26-25, in set one.
Set two proved to be just as tightly contested as the first, as both teams would be all knotted up at 20-20. A 4-0 run with kills from Jessica Pritchett, Cienna Turner, and Hawkins gave EU a 24-20 lead that EU finished off with a Turner kill, 25-22.
The Valor led just once early on in set three, but attacking errors hurt Evangel, forcing EU to trail 13-7. Evangel attempted to battle back in the set with kills from Hawkins, but could not slow their attacking errors, falling 25-19 in set three.
Evangel struggled in set four, as Sterling captured an early lead they would not relinquish, forcing EU into several attacking errors and a -.140 attacking percentage, falling 25-13 in the final set of play.
