SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Volleyball opened the postseason on Tuesday (Nov. 11) evening, hosting the sixth-seeded Ottawa Braves, looking to earn a spot in Friday's semifinals. The Valor used a dominant effort to sweep the Braves, as sophomore Sydney Bryan's career night helped EU advance to the next round of the conference tournament.
Evangel swung a game high .444 in set one, while Ottawa swung their lowest of the night, hitting eight attacking errors in the period. Bella Wakley led Evangel's offense with six kills as the Braves did not hit double digits until the 23rd EU point had been scored in the 25-12 set one victory.
Ottawa fought in set two, but the Valor defense again forced the Braves to hit negative in the set. Trailing 8-5, a trio of kills from Sydney Bryan accompanied by several OU attacking errors gave EU a 7-0 run to lead 12-8. The Braves would come as close as two points to the Valor lead, 19-17, but errors, as well as Bryan kills and a Brooklyn Claxton service ace gave EU a 25-20 win in set two.
The Braves led 11-7 in the final set of play before Bryan again began to heat up, while Charlotte Hawkins and Sharayah Seymour also added kills to aid the EU comeback. Vivianna Sanchez and Sydney Bryan closed out the set with a block, giving EU the 25-18 win and sweep of Ottawa.
