SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Volleyball concluded their homestand on Wednesday (Oct. 8) evening, hosting the Ottawa Braves. Looking to continue their winning streak, the Valor would take a pair of close sets in set one and two, and swing their highest percentage of the night in set three, sweeping the Braves on Wednesday.
Set one proved to be a back-and-forth affair, as both teams traded the lead on several occasions as neither team could pull ahead by more than three points in the set. Tied at 22-22, Evangel closed the set on a 3-0 run, using an Ottawa service error, kill from Charlotte Hawkins, and block from Hawkins and Vivianna Sanchez to take a 25-22 win in set one.
Again in set two, neither team could take more than a three-point lead, as both teams traded the lead seven times. After a Sanchez kill gave EU a 17-15 lead in the set, Ottawa went on a 5-0 run to take a 20-17 lead over the Valor. Trailing 21-18, three kills from Bella Wakley paired with three attacking errors helped push the Valor to a come from behind, 25-22 win in set two.
Despite neither team taking more than a three point lead in the first two sets, Evangel dominated offensively in set three, swinging .333 and taking an eight point lead late in the set on a Simone Johnson kill. The Valor would take a 25-19 win in the final set of play after an Ottawa service error closed out the game.
