LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Evangel Volleyball concluded their brief road trip on Wednesday (Oct. 29) evening, taking on the Saint Mary Spires, looking to bounce back after a tough road loss to Bethel last week. Despite dropping the first set on Wednesday, Evangel bounced back, taking the following three sets to earn their 27th win of the season, 3-1.
Evangel struggled in set one to keep their offense rolling, despite a strong start in the set. Both Sydney Bryan and Vivianna Sanchez recorded several kills in the set, but attacking errors and an increased hitting percentage from Saint Mary hurt Evangel's chances, as a 7-2 run swung momentum midway through the set, forcing EU to fall 25-21.
Several blocks paired with kills from Charlotte Hawkins and Sharayah Seymour helped Evangel take an early lead in set two that they would hold to the finish, as Sanchez recorded four kills late in the 25-21 win in set two for Evangel.
Evangel opened the third set on a 9-0 run, but Saint Mary continued to fight, drawing back within two points of the EU lead, 21-19. Two attacking errors and kills from the Evangel middle's helped get the Valor out of trouble, as EU took a 25-20 win in set three.
The final set of play proved to be Evangel's most dominant, as the Valor opened the period on a 9-1 run and closed the set on a 6-0 run, taking a 25-13 win with kills coming from six different Evangel attackers in the final set.
