NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – Evangel Volleyball hit the road on Friday (Oct. 24) evening to take on the Bethel College Threshers, one of the top teams in the conference. The Valor would battle on Friday, but attacking errors hurt Evangel's chances in the game, ultimately falling in straight sets for the first time this season.
A kill in the first set by Cienna Turner would tie the game up at 11-11, but a 6-2 run by the Threshers gave the home team a 17-13 lead. Evangel would draw back within two points of the Bethel lead, 17-15, but a 8-3 Thresher run closed out the set, as EU fell 25-18 in the first set, committing 10 attacking errors.
Bethel opened set two on an 11-3 run, but Evangel continued to fight, using kills from Sharayah Seymour and Bella Wakley, as well as attacking errors from Bethel to draw within a point, 12-11. Both teams fought and played all the way to a tied 24-24 game, with Vivianna Sanchez recording a kill to tie the game up. Unfortunately, Bethel was able to kill Evangel's momentum, blocking attacks for the game winning kills, forcing EU to fall 26-24.
With momentum lost, Evangel attempted to fuel a comeback in the final set of play, but could not keep pace with Bethel's offense, as the Threshers came away with a 25-18 win, giving EU their first loss in straight sets of the season.
