WINFIELD, Kan. – Evangel Volleyball concluded their road trip on Wednesday (Oct. 15) evening, taking on the Southwestern College Moundbuilders. Looking to add another win to their season total, the Valor used a balanced attack on Wednesday, sweeping the Moundbuilders.
Both teams had their best attacking sets in the first set of play, with EU slightly outhitting Southwestern, .306 to .286. The Moundbuilders took an early 3-1 lead over EU, but just moments later, the Valor had shifted momentum, taking a 12-6 lead over the home team behind a pair of Addison Allen service aces and kills from Vivianna Sanchez and Bella Wakley. Evangel would not relinquish their lead in the period, taking a 25-17 win in set one.
Both teams played a back-and-forth second set, as Southwestern held a lead as late as 19-17 over Evangel. A timeout by Coach Whitehead helped Evangel regain momentum, using kills from Wakley and Sydney Bryan to take a 21-19 lead. Southwestern trailed 24-23, but a Bryan kill ended Southwestern's chance in the set, as EU won 25-23.
Wakley recorded five kills in a 8-0 Evangel run in set three to take a 14-8 lead over SWC, and five kills from Cienna Turner gave EU a 21-11 lead over the Moundbuilders. Southwestern would not go down without a fight, but the damage had been done as EU took a 25-22 win in the final set of play on a kill from Wakley.
