SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Volleyball returned home on Wednesday (Oct. 1) evening, hosting the College of the Ozarks Bobcats in their first home game of the season, not attached to a tournament. With a capacity crowd on hand, the Valor took care of business in a thrilling sweep of the Bobcats, 3-0.

Each set proved to be close, as both teams traded the lead on several occasions. Back-to-back service aces for the Bobcats forced an Evangel timeout, making it a 16-13 lead for C of O. An 8-1 Evangel run with kills coming from Charlotte Hawkins, Cienna Turner, and Vivianna Sanchez gave EU back the lead, 21-17. Bella Wakley capped off the set with a kill, giving EU a 25-22 win in set one.

The Valor jumped out to a 15-7 lead over the Bobcats, taking complete control of the set as Sharayah Seymour recorded several kills and C of O swung several attacking errors. The Bobcats would fight to draw within a pair of points of the Evangel lead, but Seymour and Sanchez shut down any comeback attempt, recording kills to give EU a 25-21 win in set two.

Set three proved to be the tightest of the evening, but ultimately the Valor would come away with a 30-28 win. EU trailed 23-20 in the set and it appeared that the game would be pushed to a fourth set. Sharayah Seymour recorded a kill, followed by a block from Cienna Turner and Vivianna Sanchez to draw within a point. A C of O attacking error was followed by a Sanchez kill to give EU a 24-23 lead. Both teams traded point for point until the Bobcats led 28-27. A service error by the Bobcats was followed by a pair of kills from Charlotte Hawkins to give EU a 30-28 win and sweep of their rival, C of O.
