SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Volleyball concluded their homestand on Wednesday (Oct. 18) evening, hosting the Southwestern College Moundbuilders. The Valor took care of business in straight sets on Wednesday, 3-0, against Southwestern College.
After both the Valor and Moundbuilders played to a tie, 17-17, in the first set, Evangel found the set-winning run. A 6-1 run by Evangel, aided by three Moundbuilder attacking errors and kills by Mackenzie Stoner and Vivianna Sanchez pushed EU ahead, 23-18. Southwestern was able to make a small run of their own, but a Mallory Dick kills ended the set for Evangel, taking a 25-22 win in set one.
Southwestern took an early 11-4 lead in set two, as it appeared Evangel may fall behind and lose the set. Blocks by Mallory Dick, Sharayah Seymour, and Vivianna Sanchez, accompanied with kills by Allison Thomas, Seymour, and Dick helped Evangel generate a 10-0 run to take a 14-11 lead. The Valor would go ahead, 17-13, before the Moundbuilders used a 5-0 run to take a 18-17 lead. Evangel ended the set on an 8-2 run to end the set, ultimately taking the win from Southwestern, 25-20.
Evangel dominated in set three, hitting .245 to Southwestern's .087. The Valor were able to take as much as an 11 point lead in the set, highlighted by seven kills by Mallory Dick, to take a 25-15 set three victory over Southwestern, sweeping the Moundbuilders.
