SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer took the field on Saturday afternoon, looking to grab a win against the visiting William Penn Statesmen. The Valor offense could not keep pace with the Statesmen as Evangel fell, 3-0.
Both teams spent the better half of the first half setting the pace of play. James Bourke-Nuku recorded Evangel's first shot of the afternoon at the 27 minute mark, a header that wound up wide right of the goal. Two and a half minutes later, William Penn scored their first goal of the afternoon and Evangel had work to do. Lucas Arias nearly tied the game up at a goal apiece, but a nice save by the William Penn goalie kept the Statesmen lead intact. Just one minute later, WPU took a 2-0 lead that they took into the halftime break.
The Valor came out in the second half, looking to make adjustments to the William Penn offense. The Statesmen scored an early goal in the half to take a 3-0 lead, but the Evangel adjustment worked as WPU could not connect on another goal in the game. The Valor offense continued to work but EU was only able to find three shots in the half. Arias again nearly had a goal for Evangel on the last shot of the afternoon, but WPU stuffed the shot and Evangel fell, 3-0.
