LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Evangel Men's Soccer concluded their road trip on Wednesday (Oct. 28) night, taking on the Saint Mary Spires in Leavenworth, needing a win to remain in playoff contention. The Valor were unable to keep pace with the Spires offense, falling 3-1 on Wednesday in their final road contest of the season.
Saint Mary recorded their first goal before the Valor were able to record their first shot of the contest, leading 1-0 on a penalty shot at the 24:48 mark. Miguel Santos put a header on goal in the 29th minute, but the Spires keeper earned the save, with Saint Mary adding a goal in the 33rd minute to lead 2-0. Evangel was unable to score to close the half, trailing 2-0 at the halftime break.
In the 76th minute, Saint Mary extended their lead to 3-0 over Evangel as the Valor continued to fight and attempt to gain possession in their attacking third. A foul in the box late on Wednesday allowed Miguel Santos to capitalize on a penalty shot goal, but the offense was too little, too late, as EU fell 3-1 in fulltime on Wednesday.
