SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel looked to claim their first conference win since 2019 on Wednesday night when they hosted the 6th ranked team in the nation in Missouri Valley. Despite grabbing a goal in the match and hanging tough through the first half of play, the Valor fell, 6-1.

The Valor found offensive success to start the game, recording the first shot on goal when Lucas Arias breezed by the defense and put a shot that the goalie stopped at just the 5:46 mark. The Vikings responded with three shots of their own and at the 18:15 mark, MVC netted their first goal of the night on a deflection from a Valor defender. Evangel's Dean McConnell and Rem Harmsworth found shots of their own, but both shots ended wide right. The Vikings added an additional goal with 11:39 remaining in the first half to grab a 2-0 lead. The Valor defense was able to stop any other goals from being scored in the first half by great defense on the back line, keeping it at 2-0 at the break.

Evangel kicked off the second half with a furious offensive pace and Sage Ballard recorded a shot just left of the goal in the first 25 seconds of the match. MVC found their third goal of the night just three minutes later on a free kick opportunity. Evangel recorded three additional shot opportunities and their lone corner of the night by Igor Ovcarevic, but failed to put the ball in the back of the net. At the 61 minute mark, the Vikings added their fourth goal of the night and added an additional goal just six minutes later. The Valor recorded their first goal of the evening when Andrew Flippin broke away in the box and was fouled during his shooting motion. Flippin received a penalty kick that he would nail, giving Evangel a goal, his first of the year. MVC was able to add one final goal at the 76 minute mark of the game, solidifying the final score at 6-1, in favor of the Vikings.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Four Valor players recorded shots on goal in the loss.

  • Flippin scored his first goal of the season at the 75 minute mark, the fourth of his career.

  • Anthony Morales and Tatenda Kahwena both recorded three saves on Wednesday night.
