DES MOINES, Iowa -- After defeating the Pirates of Park on Wednesday night, Evangel traveled north to take on the Grand View Vikings, who are receiving votes in the most recent top 25 poll. Despite a strong Evangel start, both teams settled in and ultimately, a slow fourth quarter for EU proved to be the difference as the Vikings were victorious, 54-38.

From the opening tip, Evangel's pressure proved to be too much for the Vikings. The full court Valor press forced Grand View into eight turnovers in the first quarter alone, leading to a solid 11-0 run for Evangel. The Vikings slowed their offensive pace and began to find a rhythm on offense and scored their first basket at the 5:27 mark of the quarter. Each team traded baskets to end the quarter with EU on top, 17-9.

Grand View used a 10-2 run to start the second quarter to even the score with Evangel. The Vikings recorded three free throws after their run, but a field goal would not be scored from the floor until the two minute mark when Alexis Roach rattled a three home, tying the game back up. GVU continued to score to end the half and took a 27-24 lead into the break. Paiton Acord led Evangel with nine points at the break.

Evangel and Grand View played a tightly contested third quarter. The Vikings extended their lead to 11 with 5:30 remaining in the quarter, but the Valor fought to cut the deficit. Baskets by Jazzy Kirby, Alexis Roach, and Alexis Cauthon helped Evangel cut it down to a 41-37 game, but a late Viking three pushed the Vikings up by seven to end the quarter, 44-37.

The Valor struggled in the fourth quarter and could not hit their shots. Evangel went 0-12 in the final quarter, scoring just one point on an Cauthon free throw as Grand View captured the game, 54-38.
