PERU, Neb. – The Valor traveled to Peru, Neb., on Saturday afternoon, looking to extend their three-game conference winning streak. Thanks to a high octane scoring attack that consisted of four double digit scorers, EU took home the victory, 99-80.
The Valor began the game trailing early and Peru's Maddy Duncan scored a layup, giving the Bobcats a 6-5 lead. Ultimately, this was the last time the Bobcats led in the game, as a 13-2 run by the Valor gave EU an 18-8 lead. Bayley Harman scored 10 points in the first quarter to lead EU as they finished the quarter on top, 21-15.
The second quarter proved vital to the Valor's road to victory as they outscored the Bobcats, 23-6. The Valor defensive effort did not allow Peru to score a basket until the 6:24 mark of the quarter, as EU continued to pour on the lead. By the time the buzzer sounded for halftime, EU led 44-21. Zoey Mullings notched 10 points and came away with three steals to lead the Valor in the second quarter.
The Bobcats and Valor made the third quarter a high scoring battle between both teams. Peru scored 30 points in the period while EU kept pace with 29 points of their own. The Valor began the third quarter on a 9-4 run, sparked by four Abby Wildermuth points. Each team traded baskets until the Bobcats answered by going on a 15-6 run of their own, leading to a 73-51 Valor lead at the end of the third quarter. Both Harman and Mullings led the Valor with 14 points.
The fourth quarter turned out much like the third quarter as both teams scored a high amount of points. Both Peru and Evangel continued to trade baskets, and at the end of the quarter, Peru only slightly dwindled the Valor lead, thanks to a final three Peru hit in the remaining seconds. Kohnnar Patton took the ball down the court and wound down the final seconds en route to a 99-80 victory for the Valor.
The Valor had 4 different players to score in double digits. Led by Harman's season high 24, Mullings tacked on an additional 19, Sadie Chisum scored 11, and Wildermuth added 10 points in her first game of 2022. Mullings led EU with 7 rebounds and Wildermuth recorded 5 assists.
