SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel overcame an early 1-0 deficit to score three unanswered goals to notch a 3-1 victory over Ecclesia College Thursday afternoon at Coryell Field.
After Ecclesia grabbed an early lead on Jorge Zamarron's goal in the 10th minute of the contest, Evangel responded to even the score less than four minutes later on Cole Odewaldt's goal.
Evangel then broke the 1-1 deadlock with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Luis Schafner scored just over five minutes into the half to give EU the lead, and Luis dos Santos extended the margin to 3-1 with his goal off a penalty kick in the 54th minute.
Jacob Holman recorded a pair of saves for Evangel, logging all 90 minutes in goal for EU to earn the victory.
EU domininated the Royals in shots, recording 20 (10 on goal) for the match, compared with just six shots for Ecclesia. Odewaldt led EU with six shots taken, while four additional players logged two shots in the win.
