ST. LOUIS, Mo.  Paced by the hot shooting of Manrique Alvarado, Evangel knocked down 18-of-25 (0.720) first-half field goal attempts in establishing a commanding lead that Harris-Stowe would never seriously threaten in an eventual 66-47 EU victory Thursday evening at the Emerson Performance Center.

Evangel came out of the locker room firing, connecting on 17 of its first 21 shot attempts to establish a 14-point advantage. Alvarado converted his first six attempts from the floor, including four-straight from beyond the arc, to tally 16 of his 18 points in the first half.

The Valor built an early 13-point cushion, as Alvarado accounted for eight Evangel points during a critical 14-3 scoring run that turned a 7-5 game into a 21-8 EU edge.

The Hornets trimmed the Evangel lead to five by scoring 10 unanswered points of their own. Jace Coffie kicked off a 20-9 Valor spurt with his layup at the 6:31 mark, before Alvarado scored the next five EU points.

A Josh Pritchett bucket and a Cade Coffman three-pointer sandwiched a Jadakiss Williams basket, stretching the Evangel lead back to 13 points with just over four minutes to play in the half.

Harris-Stowe briefly sliced the margin to nine points, before Alvarado's fourth triple of the half and another Pritchett bucket extended the Valor lead to 41-27 with 1:18 left on the clock.

The Hornets scored nine of the first 13 points of the second half to draw to within nine points, but Evangel promptly answered with an 8-0 run to seize a 55-38 lead—its largest of the evening to that point.

Harris-Stowe would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way, as the EU defense put the clamps on the Hornets offense down the stretch. EU allowed just seven points over the final 10 minutes of play and limited the Hornets to just 0.383 (18-of-47) shooting for the night.

Alvarado finished the night with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with four assists, while Pritchett added 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Valor. Pavel Antonov (12 points) and Coffman (10 points) each added double-figure scoring efforts, while combining for 15 rebounds.

Evangel shot 50-percent (26-of-52) from the field, including a 5-of-16 effort from three-point range. The Valor out-scored the Hornets 38-26 in the paint and out-rebounded the HSSU by a 37-27 margin.

Williams led all scorers with 20 points, while Antwan Cambell added 10 points for the Hornets.
