MARSHALL, Mo. – Behind a hat trick from David Gonzalez Betancourt, No. 10 Missouri Valley knocked off the Evangel men's soccer team by a 5-0 score Tuesday evening at Volney C. Ashford Stadium.
Paulo Alves put the defending NAIA national champions in front with the contest's first goal less than eight minutes into the match, before Juri Schlingmann made it a 2-0 affair in the 21st minute.
Betancourt took over in the second half, scoring his first two goals just 22 seconds apart, before completing the scoring with his third goal of the period with just under six minutes left in regulation.
Highlights
- MVC out-shot the Valor by a 27-0 margin, including 16 shots in the opening half
- The duo of Alves and Schlingmann combined to post all five of the Vikings' shots on goal in the first half, while Mike Moser added four shots for MVC over the first 45 minutes of play
- Betancourt scored at the 34:19 mark of the second half off of a Dragen Petrovic assist, then scored two more times via feeds from Ruben Jimenez
- Zeke Brown made four saves in goal for Evangel
