SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Manuel Govina's goal in the 59th minute proved to be the deciding tally in Culver-Stockton's 2-1 victory over the Evangel men's soccer club Saturday evening at Coryell Field.
Junior Barboza scored for Evangel just eight-and-a-half minutes into the contest to put the Valor in front, but Adam Fowler tied it up just four minutes later, and Gavina registered the go-ahead goal to help the Wildcats snap a six-match losing streak.
Highlights
- Barboza scored his first goal of the season in the ninth minute of the contest off of a Vitor Cositorto feed, handing EU its first lead in any match since Aug. 27 at John Brown
- Fowler recorded an unassisted goal at the 12:43 mark to knot the score at 1-1, halting a scoreless streak of 579 minutes spanning eight matches for Culver
- Gavina notched an unassisted goal just over 13 minutes into the second half
- C-SC out-shot the Valor by a 25-17 margin, with Jack Gibson recording six saves in goal
- Anthony Morales registered 14 saves for EU in goal
- Cole Oedewaldt led Evangel with four shots, while Barboza and Vinicius Albino each added three shots (two on goal)
