SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's basketball team open Heart of America play on Saturday at defending league champion and 2nd-ranked William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
SERIES HISTORY
William Penn leads the short series, 4-2, over Evangel and have won the last four meetings. The Crusaders last win came during the Statesmen's first season in the Heart on Jan. 9, 2016, with a 90-89 road victory.
OPENING STORYLINES
► Evangel opens Heart of America play Saturday at defending league champion William Penn. The Statesmen are also ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division I and sit at 5-0 overall after opening conference play Wednesday with a win over Culver-Stockton.
► Evangel is looking to snap a two-game skid while also snapping a four-game streak against William Penn. The Crusaders last win against the Statesmen came on Jan. 9, 2016, when William Penn joined the league and Evangel took a 90-89 road win.

Clark Brewington (Pocahontas, Ark.) has led Evangel in scoring and is second in rebounding averaging 19.7 points per game and 6.5 boards per game. Brewington who is also shooting 50 percent from the field has two 20-point games already this season.

Cade Coffman (Mtn. Grove, Mo.) has been tough on the boards for Evangel leading the Crusaders with 6.7 rebounds per game and also 3.2 offensive boards per game. Coffman has joined Brewington in double figures as well averaging 11 points per game through the first four of the season.
