SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel women's basketball team fell 77-55 to No. 6 MidAmerica Nazarene Wednesday night in Heart of America Athletic Conference South Division action.
The Pioneers started the game off hot, shooting 53 percent from the floor and forced 6 Evangel turnovers in the first quarter.
After finding themselves in a hole early, the Crusaders were able to make some adjustments and went on an 11-2 run to close out the half, aided by Mackenzie Farmer's 3-point shooting. The Pioneer's lead by just 1 point at intermission, 35-34.
But it was MidAmerica who took control after the break, opening up the half on a 12-4 run and finished the third quarter outscoring the Crusaders 23-10.
Evangel's comeback effort wasn't enough, as the Pioneers would go on to eventually control the rest of the game.
MidAmerica was led by Tristin Wicks, who finished with a double-double, scoring 28 points and gathering 10 rebounds. Alisha Washington added 22 points in the effort.
Evangel's Thalita Valerio led the team in scoring with 15 points. Sydnee Garrett and Kylee Moore both added 10 points of their own.
The Lady Crusaders hit the road Saturday as they head to Benedictine for a Heart of America conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
