SPRINGFIELD, Mo – The Evangel women's basketball team struggled in a 72-45 loss Saturday against conference opponent, William Penn.

Shots were falling at the start of the game as the Lady Crusaders held a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. Allison Jarrell led the charge with 9 points, going 3-5 from beyond the three-point line. Sydney Garrett also provided 8 points in the quarter.

Evangel wasn't able to keep pace with its hot start, getting outscored 17-3 in the second quarter and fell victim to a 12-point deficit at halftime.

The deficit was too much for Evangel to come back from. The Lady Statesmen kept piling on the points with efficiency, shooting 58 percent from the floor and 52 percent from three during the second half.

William Penn had four players reach double digits in points, including Vashti Nwagbaraocha, who ended up with a team-high 16 points on a perfect 8-8 shooting.

Evangel's Sydnee Garrett finished with another double-double, tallying 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Evangel heads west for a pair of games in California next week. The Crusaders head to Santa Clarita, California on Dec. 14 to play The Master's College and wrap up west coast action Dec. 15 against Hope International in Fullerton, California.
