SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel University hosts the Fourth Annual Assemblies of God Classic, Dec. 29-30 at the Ashcroft Center.
OPENING STORYLINES
► Evangel plays host to the Fourth Annual Assemblies of God Classic December 29-30. The Crusaders host Southwestern Assemblies of God after Vanguard and Cornerstone (Mich.) meet in the first game Friday. Cornerstone will take on SAGU in Saturday's first game as the Crusader matchup with Vanguard in the Classic finale.
► Both Cornerstone and Vanguard are ranked in the latest NAIA Polls as the Golden Eagles are No. 1 in the nation in the NAIA Division II Poll. Vanguard is ranked No. 22 in the NAIA Division I poll as SAGU is receiving votes in the latest Top 25 Poll. Cornerstone also finished as the national runner-up at last year's NAIA Division II National Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo., falling to Union (Ky.), 72-69.
► Evangel saw its two-game win streak snapped before Christmas break in a loss to No. 3 William Penn. The Crusaders had knocked off Missouri Valley and College of the Ozarks to start the month of December.
► Justin Washington leads Evangel at 15.5 points per game and also ranks in the top 20 nationally in rebounding. Washington is averaging 8.9 boards per game (17th best) while Jalen Norman ranks 40th in blocks.
LOOKING AHEAD
Evangel returns to Heart of America Athletic Conference Action on January 3 at Avila. Tipoff in Kansas City is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
