SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A late comeback fell short Saturday afternoon as the Evangel women's basketball team fell 72-66 to Missouri Valley in conference action.

The Crusaders fell behind after taking a 23-22 lead in the first quarter, Missouri Valley held Evangel to just three points in the second to pull ahead, 40-26. The Crusaders shot 38 percent in the game, however, the Vikings shot 49 percent and forced 18 turnovers.

Evangel was led by Allison Jarrell's 20 point effort while Sydnee Garrett tallied a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Missouri Valley was paced by 12 points from Hilma Mededovic as she also added eight rebounds in the win.

The Crusaders continue home action Tuesday as they host College of the Ozarks as part of the Rib Crib Highway 65 Shootout. Tipoff from the Ashcroft Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
