SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's soccer team won its second straight Saturday in a 3-1 victory over Mount Mercy in conference action.
The Crusaders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goal from Christian Lopez. Braden Toebben assisted on the first Lopez goal in the 29th minute to give Evangel a 1-0 lead.
Lopez would score just a couple minutes later off a Nick Wagner assist to extend the Crusaders advantage. Evangel would keep a 2-0 lead into halftime before Mount Mercy was able to get on the scoreboard.
The Mustangs scored in the 61st minute to pull within a goal. However, it would be short-lived.
Julio Quezada added the insurance goal for Evangel in the 63rd minute to extend the lead to 3-1. The goal is the third of the season for Quezada.
Evangel and Mount Mercy were nearly even in the attacks with the Mustangs finishing with 14 shots and the Crusaders with 12.
Josiah Dinwiddie recorded five saves in goal to earn the win.
