Crusaders pull away in fourth quarter for win at Peru State

Peru, Neb.  Evangel women's basketball ended the regular season on a high note getting a 75-60 win over Peru State on the road Saturday afternoon.

Evangel led the whole way, getting a three point lead at the end of the first quarter before extending the margin to eight by the end of the half. Peru State would pull within four points in the third quarter but Evangel held the Bobcats at arms' length and a 9-0 run midway through fourth quarter put the game away.

Allison Swanson and Reggine Brown each had 19 points to lead all scorers, with Swanson getting a double-double adding 13 rebounds. Taylor Longley had nine points and a career high 16 rebounds for Evangel.

Jackie Beaugard led Peru State in scoring with 18 points.

With the win, Evangel's record improves to 9-18 and 8-14 in the Heart of America conference. Peru State drops to 6-24 with a 3-19 conference mark. Evangel had already secured the ninth seed in the Heart of America tournament and with an Avila loss, Peru State clinched the 10th seed.

Evangel will start the Heart of America conference tournament on Tuesday, March 1st when they will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take on eighth seeded Grand View. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
