Evangel loses final home game to #10 MidAmerica Nazarene 69-55

Springfield, Mo.  Evangel fell in their final home game of the season on Wednesday night losing to MidAmerica Nazarene 69-55. 

Evangel trailed wire to wire against the #10 ranked team in NAIA-I as the Pioneers started the game on a 6-0 run. Evangel struggled offensively shooting only 33 percent from the field for the game. The Pioneers also forced 20 Evangel turnovers and had eight blocks.

"We had trouble with their quickness and speed," said Evangel head coach Leon Neal. "We did a good job defensively. We were able to stop some of their shooters but when we turned it over and they got in transition, the game got away from us."

Allison Swanson led Evangel with 14 points, adding four rebounds. Jessica Lessmann added 11 points.

MidAmerica Nazarene's Nathalie Felipe led all scorers with 16 points. Megan Balcom added 13 points and four assists with Kyleesha Weston notching a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Evangel's record drops to 8-18 and 7-14 in the Heart of America conference. MidAmerica Nazarene improves to 23-5 and 18-3 in the conference

Evangel will be on the road on Saturday when they travel to Peru, Nebraska to take on Peru State in the final regular season game of the year. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.
