Springfield, Mo. – Evangel scored their first goal in program history Tuesday in a 2-1 loss to Central Baptist (Ark.) at the Lake Country Soccer Complex in the Crusaders home opener.
Evangel's Matt Novak, a freshman from Richland, Missouri, got the Crusaders within a goal of the lead scoring the program's first goal in their modern-era history. Novak's goal came in the 86th minute but Evangel could not find a way to forge a tie. The goal was Evangel's first for the program as it returned to intercollegiate competition for the first time since 1974.
Central Baptist got a first half goal from Callum Morris and a second half score by Thomas Milner.
The game was delayed by lightning for 30 minutes with 7:37 remaining in the first half.
With the loss, Evangel falls to 0-3 on the season. Central Baptist picked up their first win of the season, improving their record to 1-1-1. The Crusaders are next in action on September 15th when they travel to Williams Baptist. (Ark.)
