Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Evangel men's soccer team played in their first Heart of America confernece game against a team that had just joined the league but the Crusaders fell 7-0 at William Penn Saturday in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
William Penn scored five goals in the first half to grab the lead. Sergio Carro opened the scoring with a goal in the 5th minute, with Lewis Hubbard doubling the lead for the Statesmen in the 10th minute. Randolph Tamba added a first half brace, scoring in the 23rd and 30th minutes. Angelo Kelly wrapped up the half for the home team, scoring William Penn's fifth goal in the 35th minute.
William Penn tacked on two goals in the second half. Tamba finished off his hat trick in the 70th minute. Brad Jackson finished the scoring in the 89th minute. Austin Reinold had the closest chance for Evangel, tallying the only shot on goal for the Crusaders.
With the loss, Evangel falls to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. William Penn improves their record to 4-3-1 and 1-0 in the conference.
Evangel is next in action on September 23rd, when they travel to Baldwin City, Kansas to take on the Baker Wildcats. Game time is 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
