Crusaders pull away from Grand View late with 72-63 win

Springfield, Mo. – Evangel outscored Grand View 14-2 in the 5:36 of regulation for a 72-63 win at the Ashcroft Center on Saturday. 

The Crusaders trailed 61-58 but would get a basket from Nick Yocum that pulled them within one and a Yocum steal moments later set up a Jalen Norman basket that put Evangel ahead 62-61 with 4:49 remaining. The Crusaders never trailed from there closing out the game for their first win of the season. 

Marcus Miller led Evangel with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Norman added 12 points. 

Grand View got 13 points from Nate Washington to lead the Vikings. 

Evangel picked up their first win of the season as they improved to 1-4 and 1-1 in the Heart of America conference. It was Evangel's first home game of the year. Grand View, playing their first road game of the season, dropped to 4-2 and 0-2 in the conference. 

The Crusaders travel to Golden, Colorado for games at the Colorado School of the Mines Thanksgiving Classic. Evangel faces the host team on Friday and Fort Lewis (Colo.) on Saturday in the event.
