Springfield, Mo. – Evangel rallied from 14 down in the first half and from seven points down inside the game's final five minutes to beat Culver-Stockton 86-82 in double-overtime at the Ashcroft Center Monday.

The Crusaders trailed 27-13 midway through the first half before rallying with a 20-7 run capped by a Brodie Wingert three-pointer with three seconds left before halftime. Evangel trailed 34-33 at the half.

The two teams traded leads in the second half but the Wildcats owned a 61-54 lead with 4:52 left in regulation. Evangel would take the lead, though, with 20 seconds left on two free throws by Korry Tillery. Culver-Stockton's Johnnie Mills would then force overtime tipping in a missed three-pointer with two seconds left.

Evangel then came from four points down in the first overtime and tied the game on a Richard Chapman three-pointer with 25 seconds left in OT that forced another period.

A Wingert basket with 55 seconds left in the second overtime gave the Crusaders the lead for good breaking an 82-82 tie. Tillery connected on two free throws with 11 seconds remaining to seal it.

Tillery scored 28 points and had 17 rebounds to lead both teams. The senior from Springfield-Parkview also had 5 assists and went 10 of 12 from the free throw line. Richard Chapman had 17 points and a career high 12 rebounds.

During the game, Tillery also became the 31st player in Evangel program history to surpass 1,000 career points. He entered the game needing just five points to reach the milestone and did with free throws midway through the first half.

Culver-Stockton had 18 points from Mills while Christian Jones had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The win was Evangel's third overtime victory this season. The Crusaders are 3-0 in overtimes this season with two of them going double-overtime.

It was also the Crusaders' sixth straight victory improving them to 12-6 and 7-0 in the Heart of America conference. Culver-Stockton dropped to 8-10 and 3-4 in the league.

Evangel plays again Thursday at home hosting Missouri Valley. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. at the Ashcroft Center.
