Peru, Nebraska – Evangel women's basketball went on the road Saturday to claim a 79-71 win at Peru State to improve to 2-0 in the Heart of America conference and 3-4 overall.
Allison Swanson led all scorers with a season high 27 points and added 7 rebounds for Evangel. Swanson's previous high was 12 points two nights ago against Avila at the Ashcroft Center. Taylor Longley added 24 points on 5-7 shooting and a perfect 12-12 from the foul stripe. Longley a sophomore transfer from League City, Texas scored 26 points to open conference play Thursday night. Longley added 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and three steals in 34 minutes.
Peru State was led by Sydney Wilkinson, who scored 16 points and added four assists and five steals.
The Crusaders shot 51% from the field, and 43% from three point land. Peru State shot 45% from the field, and 44% from three. The Crusaders outrebounded the Bobcats 32-19, but lost the turnover battle 21-18. The Crusaders shot 27-32 (84.4%) from the free throw line, while the Bobcats shot 14-25 (56.0%).
The Crusaders improved to 3-4 on the season and start the HAAC schedule 2-0. The Bobcats fall to 1-7, and 0-2 in the HAAC.
Evangel next travels to Oklahoma City to take on the Oklahoma City Stars the #1 team in America in NAIA-I. The Crusaders will play the Stars on Tuesday December 9th at 6 p.m.
