Evangel Women's Soccer Earn Draw with McPherson

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Valor Women's Soccer hit the road on Saturday (Sept. 19) morning, taking on the McPherson Bulldogs in their second KCAC matchup of the season. After scoring an early goal, Evangel held a 1-0 lead until late in the game when McPherson found the equalizer, resulting in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Evangel put early offensive pressure on the Bulldogs in the first half, as EU recorded two early shots. On their third shot of the game, Lili Thiessen netted the first goal of the game, off an assist from Eliza Barger, to give the Valor a 1-0 lead. The Valor continued their offensive pressure in the first half of play, but were unable to add to their lead, taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

Evangel again led most of the offensive possession in the second half, but on a corner with four minute left, the Bulldogs would score the equalizer, tying the game at 1-1. Makayla Myers nearly had the game winning goal just seconds after the Bulldogs goal, but her shot would bang off the left post, forcing EU and McPherson to ultimately tie, 1-1, on Saturday.

"What a brilliant match the ladies played today. We came out strong, defended very well as a group, and did a great job connecting up the field," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "The goal that Lili Thiessen scored was incredible. We played at another level today and I'm very proud of how we did throughout the game and excited we garnered our first conference points of the season."

Valor Women's Soccer will hit the road on Wednesday (Sept. 23) afternoon, taking on the Avila Eagles in Kansas City, at 1:00 p.m.
