Valor Volleyball Splits Day One at Texas Two-Step

FORT WORTH, Texas – Evangel Volleyball hit the road on Friday (Aug. 28), taking part in the Texas Two-Step, facing off with Texas A&M-Texarkana and (RV) Texas Wesleyan. The Valor would use a dominant effort to defeat the Eagles of Texarkana, 3-1, but would lose steam in their contest against Texas Wesleyan, falling 3-0.

Evangel led early in set one against TAMUT, but the Eagles would use a 5-1 run midway through the set to lead 13-12. All knotted up at 18, a kill from Abby Ferguson, pair with attacking errors from the Eagles gave EU a 21-18 advantage. Charlotte Hawkins and Cienna Turner would cap off the set in EU's favor, taking a 25-20 win in set one.

TAMUT led by as much as two for most of the second set, until capturing a 15-11 lead over the Valor. Evangel responded by going on a 8-1 run, with three kills coming from Ashya Thompson to take a 19-16 lead. Three Evangel services aces and a TAMUT service error closed out the set, with EU taking a 2-0 lead, 25-22.

The Valor did take a step back in the third set and trailed by as much as seven points, 21-14, but EU did not fold, using a 9-2 run to tie the game up at 23-23. Unfortunately, the run came up just short in the set, as TAMUT scored a pair of kills to close the period, 25-23.

Despite trailing 3-2 in the fourth set, Evangel dominated, forcing TAMUT to hit -.308 with just two kills and 10 attacking errors in the period, resulting in a 25-11 win in set four, earning the win, 3-1.

The Valor struggled against (RV) Texas Wesleyan, falling behind in set one early as the Rams never looked back. Evangel drew with four points of TWU's lead on several occasions late, but could not generate a comeback, falling 25-18 in set one.

Evangel swung negative in set two, while Texas Wesleyan had their strongest attacking percentage of the afternoon, resulting in the Valor falling 25-14 in set two.

In the final set of play, Evangel used their strongest hitting percentage, but were unable to work the comeback, falling 25-22 to the (RV) Texas Wesleyan Rams.
